Masternodes host a complete copy of the blockchain and provide a unique second layer of services to the network, facilitating advanced functions on the blockchain.

As technology developed, the masternode created for dash was developed into a smartnode developed by raptoreum which has a level of collateral.

Smartnode

Smartnodes must be backed by collateral denominated in $JOSS, and in return their operators receive regular payments for the services they provide to the network. As highly committed custodians of the project, smartnode operators are given the opportunity up to 40% of the block rewards to fund community projects that support the Joss Network ecosystem.

Running a SmartNode

Running a node is an important way to contribute to the network. Your node will also help validate other peoples transactions to make sure they are obeying the rules that govern all transactions. The more people that are watching to ensure transactions are following the rules, the more secure the network.
